The airfield was originally and is now again known as Rougham as it is located north of that village between the A14 and the main railway line between Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich. It was built during 1941 and 1942 with three intersecting concrete runways. The airfield was designed for a United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) bomb group.
There were over 3000 people based at this station during WW2 and lost a total of 153 bombers in combat.
The control tower was used as a private dwelling for many years after the airfield being civilian operated, today it is now a museum.
Paranormal activity has been reported at the sight from 1970 onwards.
There have been reports of sounds of aircrafts taking off, eerie voices and sightings of an apparition of American servicemen walking around the site.
For more information about Rougham Airfield please visit the control tower’s website.

A great night
Another great night in the company of Essex Ghosthunters, and we didn't have to travel far for this one. Lots of things happening, especially the Spirit Board in the Control Tower. We are still trying to come to terms with the message that came for my wife, but wow, it was wonderful. If you have never been to an event with EGH, then you don't know what you have missed, so book NOW! We have just booked for the Fort Amherst event and are looking forward to it immensely.
