Join us at Languard Fort, which is opposite one of our most favourite forts, Harwich Redoubt Fort.
Landguard Fort was built just outside Felixstowe, Suffolk, at the mouth of the River Orwell, Landguard Fort, or Langer Fort as it was originally known, was designed to guard the entrance to Harwich. The first fortifications from 1540 were a few earthworks and blockhouse, but it was James I of England who ordered the construction of a square fort with bulwarks at each corner.
In 1667 the Dutch landed a force of 2000 men on Felixstowe beach and advanced on the fort, but were repulsed by Nathaniel Darrell and his garrison of 400 musketeers of the Duke of York & Albany’s Maritime Regiment (the first English Marines) and 100 artillerymen with 54 cannon.
The fort was considered part of Essex in the 18th and 19th centuries; births and deaths within the garrison were recorded as ‘Landguard Fort, Essex’.
A common ghostly apparition often witnessed by visitors to the fort is that of the phantom sailor who is seem peering out of windows. Visitors to the fort have also reported the feeling of being pushed by an unknown entity when they were visiting the top floor of the fort.
Your ghost hunt at Landguard Fort includes:
• Tour of the venue
• Vigils throughout the location working in small groups
• Spirit board experiments
• Use of ghost hunting equipment including Dowsing Rods & EMF Meters
• Refreshments throughout
Join Essex Ghost Hunters as we venture around the fort in search of the ghosts that haunt this venue.
What a great evening was had at the Harwich Fort! Loads of stuff going on, some very randy (apparently!) spirit soldiers and some other interesting characters. A lot of people were really affected and I loved the whole fort with its spooky atmosphere and winding staircases. There were a few very emotional moments and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole night? Thanks guys, see you next year!
So much fun!! The team were great and really friendly. Great relaxed atmosphere. Loved all the activities, felt we got value for money and an amazing night out. We will be booking again soon!!
Brilliant night at Harwich Redoubt Fort. The team were brilliant and as always, informative and kept the night light hearted, even with some of the things that happened! Would recommend Essex Ghost Hunters and already have to family and friends who are now booking! The team have given us the ghost hunting bug and we have already booked the next one. Sorry guys but you will be seeing more of us!
This was my third ghost hunt and I wasnt disappointed! The team are fantastic ... friendly and welcoming. Harwich Redoubt Fort is an unbelievable place and emf meters were going crazy! so much activity! ... I really didnt want the night to end and am booked on more nights already!
First time ghost hunting and well and truly hooked. Started the evening with a very open mind and needing something special to convince me that this stuff was for real. Didn't take long ...left Harwich in the early hours of Saturday morning with a completely different outlook to the paranormal. Great experience with a 100% genuine team of ghost hunters..10/10
My first ghost hunting event with Essex Ghost Hunters was Harwich Redoubt Fort. We got to the fort about 30 mins early, the team were very welcoming and let us take a look around the fort before anyone else got there. The team is very professional and they know what they are doing. This is great for anyone who wants to have their first ghost hunting event. I would recommend Essex Ghost Hunters to anyone who wants to experience a great and very honest paranormal investigation.
I have been to 2 event now, and I can only praise Essex Ghost Hunters. All of the staff members are friendly and well versed in knowledge of paranormal activities. Both events were excellently run, with a good supply of refreshments. I would happily recommend Essex Ghost Hunters to anyone interested.
